AI voice agents for Brisbane businesses

An AI voice agent is a software agent that answers your business line instead of a person or a voicemail box. In Brisbane that means a (07) number picked up on the first ring at any hour, running on AEST all year while the southern states change twice, taking the caller's details, answering questions about your business, booking or moving a job, and putting the caller through to someone when the call warrants it. Every call leaves a transcript and a recording. Calls bill at A$0.40 a minute of connected time, and what persists is stored in Sydney.

01

What does an AI voice agent do on a Brisbane business line?

It answers the call, works out what the caller wants, and either finishes the job or hands the call to a person. The agent reads from your own material, so it answers questions about your services, your hours and your coverage area rather than reciting a script. Where a booking system, a CRM or a job management system exposes an API, the agent reads and writes to it during the call.

Our own voice agents are built at Vertical AI and sold on the same platform as the rest of our work, so the agent that answers a Brisbane line is the same one described on our voice agents page.

  • Takes a new job with the address, the problem and the preferred time, and writes it to your job management system.
  • Answers after hours and on weekends, which is when a line rings with nobody rostered to it.
  • Qualifies a caller and transfers a live call to a person on your team, rather than promising a callback.
  • Confirms, moves or cancels an appointment already in the calendar.
  • Leaves a transcript, a recording and a structured summary of every call.

02

Which numbers can a Brisbane agent answer?

Queensland (07) numbers, which cover Brisbane CBD out through Ipswich, Logan, the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba. One (07) number reaches the whole South East Queensland corridor from Noosa to Tweed, so a business selling across SEQ does not need a number per suburb.

You can point several numbers at one agent, or bind each number to its own flow while they share one knowledge base. A business running separate Brisbane and Gold Coast lines usually wants the second shape, because the greeting and the service area differ while the answers do not.

1300 and 1800 numbers work the same way. So does an existing number ported from your current carrier, which keeps the number on your marketing and your vehicles.

03

What does Queensland having no daylight saving change?

It changes half your year, and it is the fact most platforms get wrong. Queensland holds Australian Eastern Standard Time, UTC+10, every day of the year. New South Wales, Victoria, the Australian Capital Territory and Tasmania move to Australian Eastern Daylight Time at 2am on Sunday 4 October 2026 and back at 3am on Sunday 4 April 2027. For those 182 days a Brisbane business is an hour behind Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Hobart, and half an hour behind Adelaide plus a further hour.

A platform built in Sydney that stores business hours as an east-coast offset gets this wrong twice a year. Your 5pm cutoff starts firing at 4pm Brisbane time in October, so calls that should reach a person go to the after-hours flow for six months. The agent resolves hours against the Australia/Brisbane zone rather than an offset, so a shift set in September lands at the same local time in December.

Ask any vendor you are comparing which time zone their business-hours engine resolves against. A vendor that answers with an offset rather than a zone name has the bug.

04

What does an AI voice agent cost in Brisbane?

A$0.40 a minute of connected call time on our published rate card, billed in whole minutes with a one-minute minimum. Billing runs only while the agent is on a call. There is no charge for a call that does not connect and no charge for the hours nobody rings.

Most Brisbane pages you will find on this search publish a monthly tier instead, which asks you to guess your own volume before you can compare. The arithmetic below is ours and you can check it: calls a month, multiplied by the billed minutes a call, multiplied by A$0.40.

  • A monthly plan from A$0 sets what you can see and change, and includes the platform and the number.
  • A build fee applies where we design and ship the agent for you. Ask for it in writing before you sign.
  • Work out your own figure before you compare a tier: count last month's answered calls and multiply by your average call length.

Where does a Brisbane caller's data go?

AI inference runs on AWS Bedrock in ap-southeast-2, Sydney. Speech-to-text and text-to-speech can run on Deepgram, which has had a Sydney address generally available since 17 June 2026. Transcripts, agent configuration, embeddings and audit logs rest in Supabase Postgres on AWS ap-southeast-2, encrypted at rest with AES-256. Voice compute runs on Fly.io in Sydney.

The carrier leg leaves the country. Telnyx carries the phone lines and SMS from the United States, so call audio and call metadata pass through United States infrastructure in transit. We say so rather than answering the residency question with one word. Our security page splits the stack vendor by vendor, including the vendors we cannot move onshore.

Round trip from Brisbane to the Sydney data centre is about 19 milliseconds. A Brisbane caller hears the same response time as a Sydney caller, because the transit is a rounding error against the speech and model time that makes up the rest of the budget.

  • Retention is a per-workspace window of 30, 90, 365 or 730 days.
  • Hard deletion happens within 7 days of a request.
  • Every transcript line is PII-masked before it reaches the database.
  • None of our vendors trains a model on your call data.

06

How does the handoff to a person work?

The agent transfers the live call. The caller stays on the line and reaches a person on your team, rather than being told somebody will ring back. You set the conditions that trigger it: a named topic, a caller who asks for a person, a value threshold on the job, or a phrase the agent does not have an answer for.

For a trade business the condition usually written first is the emergency one. A caller describing a gas leak, flooding or live electrical gets told to ring 000 or your emergency line, and the call is logged immediately. The agent does not try to take a booking first.

Where nobody is available, the agent takes the detail and writes the job rather than dropping to voicemail. You get the transcript within seconds of the call ending.

07

Which Brisbane businesses does this suit?

The test is whether a missed call costs you a job you would otherwise have won. Almost 146,000 registered businesses traded in Brisbane in 2024-25 on the Brisbane City Council's own count, and the ones that feel this first are the ones whose staff cannot hold a phone while they work.

Trades across Brisbane, Ipswich and the Gold Coast are the clearest case. The plumber is on a roof, the phone rings, and the job goes to whoever answers. Specialist practices in Spring Hill, Herston and the Mater precinct run the same bottleneck at 4pm when reception closes. Port of Brisbane freight and SEQ distribution operators run driver-inbound queues where the caller wants an ETA rather than a conversation. Gold Coast resorts and Noosa operators take their bookings by phone before email.

Those are examples rather than a list of who qualifies. If your line rings when nobody can reach it, the arithmetic in the cost section is the thing to run.

08

How do you choose between the Brisbane providers?

Six questions separate them, and every one has a checkable answer. Ask them in writing.

  • Which time zone does your business-hours engine resolve against? A zone name is right, an offset is the daylight-saving bug.
  • What does a minute of connected call time cost, outside a tier? A vendor who will only quote a monthly tier is asking you to guess your volume.
  • Where does AI inference run, and where do transcripts rest? Name the region and the vendor for each.
  • Which legs of the call leave Australia? Every platform has at least one. The answer to look for is a specific one.
  • Does the agent transfer a live call, or take a message? A callback promise is a different product.
  • What happens on day one if the agent gets something wrong? Ask who changes it and how long the change takes.

Questions people ask before they buy

Yes. A (07) number covers Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan, the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba. You can port an existing number or take a new one.

No, where the platform resolves against the Australia/Brisbane zone rather than a stored offset. Ours does, so hours set in September still land at the same local time in December while the southern states are on AEDT.

A$0.40 of connected call time, billed in whole minutes with a one-minute minimum, plus a monthly plan from A$0. The number and the hosting are included.

In Sydney. Transcripts, agent configuration, embeddings and audit logs rest in Supabase Postgres on AWS ap-southeast-2, encrypted with AES-256. AI inference runs on AWS Bedrock in the same region.

Yes. Telnyx carries the phone lines from the United States, so call audio and metadata pass through United States infrastructure in transit. Speech and inference can stay in Sydney.

No. Round trip to the Sydney data centre is about 19 milliseconds. Speech recognition and synthesis take up the rest of the response budget, and those run the same for a Brisbane caller as a Sydney one.

Yes, as a live transfer rather than a callback. You set the conditions: a named topic, a caller who asks, a job value, or a question the agent cannot answer.

Yes, where the system exposes a REST API. The agent reads and writes to it during the call, so a job lands in the system before the caller hangs up.
